Instead of fishing with a rod and reel, some guys catch catfish with their bare hands. This method of “fishing” is called noodling. This is how it works.
First, the angler gets into the water and searches for a catfish nest. This is the spot where the catfish lays its eggs. Usually in a hole or under some brush.
After finding a nest the angler sticks his hand into or near the nest and wiggles his fingers around. The catfish that is protecting the nest will instinctively bite whatever is threatening the nest. The catfish bites the hand of the angler. The angler then grabs onto the catfish and pulls it out of the water and into the boat or onto the bank.
Sounds easy, doesn’t it? Well, maybe not. Imagine getting your fingers bit by a 50 pound catfish and then fighting it all the way to the surface and then to the boat. That’s probably not the easiest thing to do. Looks fun though! I would want to try it.
